Today I got to meet a sixth grader (I am in ninth grade). She is struggling with coming to a new school and making friends. She has some serious self esteem issues. Talking to her I was amazed by how similar we are. I see myself so much in her. I really want to help her. I don't want her to the point I got to. I think just talking to her today made her happy. I am planning on decorating her locker with sweet little notes and continuing to talk her. At the same time now I feel a bit of pressure to feel better and happy. Maybe it will give me some motivation to keep going. Do y'all have any suggestions for helping her out ?

Omg, I want to hug you!!! It is people like you who give me so much hope and faith in humanity
You have no idea what compassion and empathy can do in another persons life....it truly can and does make a huge difference! You reaching out to this young, vulnerable child is such an amazing blessing! I am so very proud of you! Be proud of you, too and never give up on your fellow neighbors. Never harden your heart towards people. The world should be about love and sweetheart, I can tell you have a lot of love in your heart to give. Keep that gift close to your heart and guard it. You will make such a difference in peoples lives. I have faith in that and in you.
Thanks for this!

Thanks. I feel that is the only reason I'm still here, because I want to make a difference and help someone so that they won't have to feel like I do.

You are awesome for doing this!! Just awesome.

My advice to helping this girl... say to her what you wish was said to you at that age... add your experience and wisdom to her world.

Be honest. Be yourself. Be a friend that listens. Commiserating (but not dwelling) is huge. Your presence is a light that will illuminate the possibilities of the world.

Just being in her life will keep her from feeling so alone. Don't put too much pressure on yourself to "save" her. You are a wonder and a miracle to her already.

...also, let her be a friend to you. If her friendship means something to you, let her know it.
