Yes, is empathy. For me is so usual. Hard, but usual. It's because We are so sensible.

Yes, I believe it can be catching. I find myself going down when around other down people at times. In fact, it happened to me today. Now I'm worried about her problems along with mine.

I never use to be like that. & I tend to fall in love with guys who have depression/deal with it/who cut. It's really weird.

Someone who understands you. Not that weird, to be honest. Don't mean to demean, ... it's just, ... human. We like to be understood. It's the same reason I'd prefer to be with a woman who's got some sort of mental health problem(s); because I feel she'd "get" me more than some random woman off the street who thinks she's God's gift to man. Would I like to be with a woman who's 100% healthy? Sure, ... I guess, ... but I'd always wonder if she understood. I wouldn't say I'm attracted to mental health, but I am attracted to the prospect of a woman relating to me; understanding what I go through, even just a little bit.

EDIT: sorry, the God's gift bit wasn't very nice, ... I'm just not very confident about my prospects of meeting a "healthy" woman from "the street" who just happens to not have her head up her behind. Blame that view on making the mistake of checking out dating sites... t'was a big mistake. >.<

Same here (except toward women). And I am old and married - yet I get instant feelings for someone who is depressed or simply looking very sad or a fellow-cutter.

* but I am a freak - so I guess that is what should be expected from me.

It can be towards some women too, mostly men though. Why am I so sensitive towards them?

sounds like you are just a very CARING person. You must have an instinctive desire to help other people. It is a GOOD thing - a positive quality about yourself.

you sound like you really care about others.

I have such experience too.. when 3 of my friends were sad and confiding me about their problems.. and their intents to die. And I found myself hospitalised 2 weeks thereafter because I went down with them too.

I guess we're more vulnerable than others? Just a thought...
