At the beginning of the year, my doctor placed me on Risperdone. I gained close to 20 lbs and suffered from edema (swelling of feet and hands). So I asked him to take me off the Riseperdone.
He now placed me on Seroquel which also has the potential of weight gain. Is there anyone taking Seroquel and experiencing weight gain or took Seroquel had gained weight? Or better yet, took it and felt a little better. Please let me know ASAP. I can't gain more weight. I just can't. Nola |

Hi there and yes, I gained weight whilst prescribed Seroquel, BUT, it's helped me a great deal with my OCD intrusive obsessive thoughts, I could never stop taking it even though I hate the weight gain. I tried stopping Seroquel, but the results were so drastic, I couldn't wait to resume them again!! XXX

Hi, I only took Seroquel for a short time, so I'm not sure if it would have affected my metabolism or not. I've been on Zyprexa for almost a year now and have gained close to 20 or 30 pounds though. Weight gain is a common side effect of anti-psychotics. They make me eat more for some reason.

I don't know what to do then. My appearance is EVERYTHING to me. You just don't understand that I just can't gain anymore weight. No matter what I do or how hard I try, I end up losing in the end.

You sound like me, I gained weight too and just went on another drug that my doc says 'might' cause me to gain weight. The things is, we can help ourselves in this. One doctor told me that the reason we gain weight is because we feel better, we are more relaxed in general and so give ourselves permission to eat.
And we eat the wrong things ![]() Or we don't exercise even though we know it is critical to maintaing/losing weight. So I would suggest to you that you try to control what goes in. Augment that with a TON of water. Go buy sparkling water to drink with a little lime or lemon in it if regular water gets boring. Brew iced tea and drink that to mix it up. The first thing you do when a hunger pang strikes is drink a glass of water. Eat Normal(?) small portions and do not allow yourself any soda or foods that you know are a problem. (crackers, chips, ice cream) We all know what our food issues are, but I am here to tell you we can support each other to make the right choices and help ourselves. Best of luck to you with this and with feeling better! ![]()
