I don't really like Dr. Phil and don't watch it but I just caught the end of it and they had this girl with severe anxiety and they were all talking to a doctor over their cell phones. There is this new thing called Doctors on Demand. If looks like it only has GP's but they can prescribe to you and give you referrals. It costs 40 bucks to talk to a doctor live on your phone.
For someone in crisis waiting two months to get in to see a pdoc this may be a good solution. Since pdocs charge 200 to 300 an hour it may be worth 40 bucks to talk to a GP for awhile to just get some guidance or even meds. They can prescribe right then and there. I am not usually for GP's prescribing psyche meds but if you are in crisis and have to wait two months to see a pdoc....well that is ridiculous. I wonder if they have a similar thing for therapy. They should. I'm about to ask my GP for a pdoc referral. Maybe this time I'll get somewhere, maybe not as my level of risk hasn't changed. If I was prepared to go private I could see someone tomorrow, but I can't afford £400 per consultation and being in England I don't have (shouldn't need) insurance. I looked into different options and found an online pdoc service, where consultations are via Skype and the cost is £100 per session. I'm thinking of asking my GP to go the local funding panel to see if they will pay for this as I'm entitled to a second opinion and it is a much cheaper option than even an NHS pdoc.
