Just wondering how others deal with being distracted at work? One of my symptoms this time around is being almost unable to focus on my work for any length of time. Part of the problem is that I don't have any pressing deadlines in front of me, so it's easy to give in to distraction. But the bigger issue is that I'm having so much trouble focusing, concentrating and even remembering (things that have been said in meetings, etc.), that I'm nervous about it starting to become apparent to others.
I work from home for my company as a result of moving out of the area. My work can generally be done from any computer, so I rarely have a lot of supervision or observation. Even so, when I have to ask for clarification or repetition on things that have been said in meetings I've attended by phone, it's mortifying (often I realize as I'm asking that this has probably been said in a meeting I've attended, but I have absolutely no recollection of it at all...) Anyone have any tips for dealing with this? |

Another day down yesterday with virtually nothing accomplished. Why is it so hard to just focus & get something done!?

Take notes during the meetings? I get distracted easily too. I don't work from home but I work with little to no supervision and there are days when I got some serious ADD.

I have the same problem this time around also. I try to write things down and keep as many references as possible. I feel the same worrying about people realizing or thinking I can't do my job.

I think I will try to take notes during meetings...at least that will make me tune in more. Part of the issue is that I'm typically the only one not in the room, so I have to call in. They have a conference phone set up on the other side, but it's from the dinosaur ages & makes it hard to hear everyone clearly. Then there's the issue of people forgetting I'm on the phone, and they talk over each other or start laughing at something, and I lose all clarity on the call until it settles down again. I pick up in a totally different vein of thought than where I was right before that.
I also don't like to sit idle, so a lot of the time on these calls I'm distracted with something else in front of me...making lunch, getting a cup of coffee, throwing laundry in while I'm listening to someone. Taking notes would probably help with that issue, too. |
