Hello,

I'm back again after a long time (I am on a new profile as it was a long time since I've been on here). I am on my first day on my new medication, Effexor. I feel so ill and have a dreadful headache. This is worse than anything I've been on before! I know it takes a long time to work so I need to be patient, but all this seems to be doing is making me even more miserable! Has anyone else been on Effexor before? So far I've tried Prozac, Celexa and Zoloft. All of which have done nothing :confused I'm beginning to give up hope that anything will work!

Jess

I understand how you feel. I have been on all of the above except Zoloft. It seems nothing works well for me either. When I took Effexor, it made me so sleepy, I had to stop it. It might have worked but I couldn't stay awake to work or function so I stopped it. I don't even want to go to work this morning but I will make myself. Hang in there. There has to be hope that something will work for us. I am beginning to wonder if the answer lies in medication or something else.

@waterknob1234 thank you! I think maybe I am expecting too much from medication. I can't expect it to magically make me feel great. I would hope it would make me feel like my old "normal" self again though!

You're not alone Little Jay. I'm staring my 5th antidepressant since last August. The previous four did nothing to help my severe depression. Tomorrow I'll be starting brintillex (sp?), so we'll see if that helps me at all. Good luck with finding a medication that will help you!

Hi, I'm new on this forum - I just want to make sure that your medication are prescribed and monitored by a psychiatrist. Its worth it to take their advice.

Hi, Yes they are. I don't see him for 6 weeks now though, I have other people available to talk to should I need to in the meantime, but I usually only get to see him every 2 months.

I'm finding it hard, but I've been asked to try and live with the side effects for two weeks and then get in touch if it doesn't get any better, I think it's a bit better now though. Not that I can feel it doing anything - Zoloft made me worse, and I then ended up in hospital, I'm worried about that happening again!

Effexor helped to pull me out of a deep depression. I stopped taking it after 6 weeks because I didn't like balancing the side-effects with an anti-anxiety medication. Though I'm still depressed, I am not anxious. Hope that the side-effects dissipate.
Thanks for this!

Effexor seemed liked it helped when I started taking it but after a while and different other med changes is when I had my first suicide attempt. They put me on Cymbalta which seemed to work for a long time but I don't have insurance now and it's too expensive. So I'm on prozac which doesn't seem like it's helping at all. Hopefully the Effexor works out for you.
