I've recently had my PCP order bloodwork to determine if my Thyroid is functioning properly in order to better pinpoint the cause of my severe depression. Has anyone else had this done? What did you learn? If your Thyroid levels were low, what, if any, medication was prescribed and if so, did they work? Thanks. I appreciate any input here on this subject.

It should be standard practice to check that first. Low thyroid can definitely cause depression. If low they would put you on synthroid and take a little bit to get the levels right. Lots of people take it.

Doctors always suspect thyroid issues and diabetes in me because my symptoms are textbook for both. Whenever I go to a new doctor, they insist on checking them even though I inform them I've already been checked many times before. In fact, my tests show thyroid and blood sugar levels that are not only "within range" but pretty optimal. It's quite frustrating because, like, why AM I having all of these symptoms of blood sugar and thyroid issues without evidence of either?
I know some people think the standard thyroid tests are inadequate, so before anyone mentions that, I have had the full panel of tests. All of the antibodies and T3s and T4s and whatever else. It's been a while since I had the full panel, so I forget the exact names of the tests, but I know I got everything people on thyroid awareness sites recommend. |

I recently just went through the same thing with 3 different doctors. Each doc didn't see anything wrong with my thyroid. The 3rd doc, an endocrinologist said my thyroid was low normal and because all my other symptoms lined up, she put me on synthroid to see if it helps. No major change yet, but I've heard people say it takes a while to see a difference.
