So to keep things straight at the beginning of January 2014 I attempted suicide and was in hospital for a few days and before I go get discharged I had a meeting with camhs (child adolescent mental health service) I am aged 17 and they told me they would get back to me in the future
But nearly 8 months since that occurred I haven't heard anything from them. I'm beginning to get really bad like I was at the beginning of the year. The voices stopped at around February but they're back now and I'm terrified. I have no one to talk to and I'm slowly giving up again. Last edited by darkpurplesecrets; Jul 29, 2014 at 10:03 PM. ![]() I've been waiting for about seven months, too, to hear from MHS. Sometimes, it helps if you get pushy (call once a week, maybe even twice a week). I hope you do hear from them soon. If you ever need someone to talk to, my PM box is open.

Hi sweetie,
I first dealt with camhs when I was 15, and the service was a bit rubbish at first. Once you get your appointment though, they will be great - they will assign you psychiatrist and a CPN. I had weekly, and then fortnightly appointments with my CPN, and she was also available at any time on the phone or by email in the day, and they had people on out of hours you could call if you needed support. The appointments with the psychiatrist were every few months - I think they were possibly more often than that when I first started seeing them though. I was 17 when I was discharged by them. When I was 18 I needed treatment again but had to see the adult services which isn't as good in my opinion. The CPN is there like a therapist. You talk to him / her about anything you want, you may do some activities / worksheets. The psychiatrist was more for prescribing medications and giving diagnosis. The CPN would update him before my appointment so that he knew how I'd been doing, and we went from there. As bronzeowl said, you sometimes have to be pushy with it. Did you get any sort of letters from them? They would have the correct number to call and who to contact. If not, you can do it through your GP. Just make an appointment, and explain that you are still waiting and in the meantime you have been struggling so see if he can get in touch with them and see where it is at (I think sometimes you have to wait for a space to come up, which is why there is such a long wait. I didn't have to wait quite as long as you have, but then it was a few years ago so maybe they're different now). Also, you will be able to talk to your GP as much as you want, so if he feels you need any sort of medications in the mean time he may prescribe them (that's what happened with me when I was 17, but I had already been on meds previously so I am unsure if he would if you haven't.) If you ever need to talk, i'm on here nearly all the time lol. ![]() I hope you start to feel a bit better soon! |

I would follow up and demand the treatment you need. I am not sure where you live but we can research resources for you if needed.

If you feel you are likely to do something harmful, go to A&E, they will get someone from your local crisis team to assess you and they will likely get Camhs to follow up with you.
If you can hold on for a GP appointment, get your GP to follow up on your referral to Camhs as a matter of urgency. There are always people on this site who will listen, and you can send me a message anytime. |
