I took a nap and woke up with leg pain. How does depression cause leg pain?

Hello, jackielunaaa. Has the leg pain continued? Perhaps, your general practitioner might have an explanation. Are you taking any medications for the depression?

Maybe the pros here might be able to help you:

Ask the Therapist

I wish you well.

Hello jackielunaaa,

Leg pain is not usually a symptom of depression. If you are concerned, it is best to get a diagnosis and treatment from your doctor.

i have joint pain when my symptoms rise... and the leg pain goes along with the general muscle pain of being so tense all the time.
Perhaps you could get it checked out? <3

When I'm in bed, I get terrible pain in my shins, sometimes all the way down my thigh bones too. The only thing that relieves it is moving my feet back and forth, so much so that I have worn holes in my sheets. I associate the pain with my depression but like you I have no idea how it could come about. The only possibility I can think of is that my posture is bad (all hunched over) and that is trapping a nerve.

Doctors have told me that that's why my legs hurt. Because I'm depressed.

Yeah, that's pretty much the reply I get to any physical problem that doesn't have an obvious cause "it is your depression". I always wonder what the docs say to people who aren't depressed, do they write off symptoms that they can't explain or are not interested in quite so glibly?

As cause and effect go, leg pain could be due to neurotransmiiter imbalance and as neurotransmitters are thought by many to play a role in depression, leg pain really might be down to depression. I guess we should both ask our doctors for a clearer explanation.
