Hi Guys,
I thought some of you may be interested in a new slant to depression by way
of the following book: "Addicted To Unhappiness" by Martha and William J. Pieper. Now,if you are anything like me,you
will think 'rubbish, who would want to be
addicted to being unhappy?' And you would
be right . . . but only for the conscious mind.
Unfortunately, for us,it is the UNCONSCIOUS mind that is the problem!
It is an error we made as children, and lies in
the subconscious, which is why we don't know we are doing it to ourselves.Hope it
helps.
Kindest Regards,
BLUEDOVE

Not all of us made the unconscious decision to be unhappy as children.

I was quite a happy child. It wasn't until I was 32 that depression hit me. There was no conscious or unconscious desicion. Diagnosed as clinical depression only meds have been able to help me. I don't believe I am addicted to being unhappy.

It would be nice to believe I would not be having suicidal thoughts, if I could just convince myself i wasn't depressed.

I think any time there's a one size fits all answer its going to come into question. Interesting theory though.

Gaylegg,at no point did I use the word 'decision'.
And I stated 'SOME of you may be interested'.Also,
if anything is unconscious, how can you know what
it is,if its unconscious?

I think the sub conscience is a very powerful thing and pulls a lot of strings. Who is to know how much is biology, how much is learned behavior, how much is trauma, etc etc. they do believe it can get set and become ingrained and more difficult to overcome the longer it persists. I think that is true for me but I don't know what else I could have done as I have been aggressively treating it for twenty years.
