I did. I think its arrogant, insensitive, and this guy is definitely a piece of work.

It's people like this that put the stigma on mental illness, and make it harder for us to come forward to friends and family!

I guess in his case, "Ignorance is Bliss". Unfortunately, being in the limelight, he should be much more careful about how he speaks and who it might hurt.

And then, there is another angle to this that we can take....

Just because he said it, doesn't mean we have to accept it as a truth. People say hurtful and inexcusable things all the time, sometimes we have to consider the source and move on. I refuse to give him or any other individual power over me by their words. He doesn't deserve it!

Thanks for this!

I could give a rat's *** what Gene Simmons thinks about my condition (or anything for that matter); I'm driving this ship.

And unlike, say, Ted Nugent who gets dumber and viler with every word, even in his prime all Gene ever rocked was makeup.

He's and idiot and I say ignore him as sabby says.

One think he does not understand is that a big part of the recovery process for both addiction and depression is getting out of the victim role. We are victims but seeing ourselves that way does not serve us. The key is to take responsibility for the hand life dealt us and do something about it. Of course everyone may be at various stages in this process and we should all be understanding and compassionate of that process.

Kinda glad that whatever was said was not actually in the initial post... don't want to know what some ignorant 'high profile' (uk resident so never heard of him) idiot has said.

Sure if you were desperate to know, you could google it... but title for the thread could have been better labelled... no offence intended.

I nearly cried when I read an article about it. I understand that his mother was in camp, my whole family had to run during the Vietnam war but people have their own strengths and weakness. He doesn't understand how hard it is for people with depression to wake up and having to face their problems everyday. We're not cowards. We're fighters. We're living everyday with doubt on if we want to survive. We fight through the tears and sadness.

what he said was stupid, but at the same time, i hate the whole celeb apology thing. like does anyone *really* believe they're sorry? they just need to get their PR back on track.

Heh, I saw what he said, and I thought, "He really is so stupid as to say that?" I was disgusted, but then happy to see his comeuppance as radio stations banned his music and he was more or less forced to shut down his TWITter account. Heh.

Also, one good comment I read was: "Dress like a clown, act like a clown."

FYI...he apologized for what he said with a rational explanation.
Sometimes people put there foot in their mouths...but when someone realizes what they have said is hurtful too other and apologizes...it's nice to hear.

All this after the recent suicide of Robin Williams makes it all the more tactless. He's ignorant and mean spirited.

Some people speak before they think and it's not the first time for him. I refuse to pick on his looks and music because stuff he says. I'm friends with someone who say the darndest things, but seriously she is just impulse driven, not evil.

Actually, he said it a couple weeks before, which makes the media very irresponsible for not reporting that. They latched onto anything about depression and suicide and made sensational headlines, out of context. You, like me, initially interpreted his comments in the present context, which makes them quite inflammatory.
