I honestly feel like all I want to do is sleep...wake up to eat some junk food-then go back to bed. I had a rare moment yesterday where I felt better and actually got some things done around my place...but I'm just constantly tired. My whole body hurts....the Cymbalta wasn't working-so now we are trying Prozac again-I cry at everything and for no reason and very hard-which is exhausting. I wish I could just not work...but that's not an option. I think feeling so weak physically and sleeping in excess is my worst problem. I need some energy : (

I know how you feel. I slept about 12 hours yesterday, which is not really that much for me. I can sleep for entire days at a time, sometimes more. I am also extremely physically weak, despite going to the gym as well as the chiropractor regularly. I stopped doing both to save money and feel a 0% difference.

Yeah, if I didn't have work I would probably sleep for about 12 hours at a time and then wake up to eat bad foods-and then go back. When I have a weekend-especially a 3 day one-this is my prime time to do this...and I need it even more because of having to struggle through each day of going to work....I just don't know how much longer I can keep doing this...something has got to give. I feel so weak physically I haven't exercised in a long time-not even walking...I feel like so weighed down-I often wonder if it's the depression or if something else is wrong? Can the depression make it this bad>? thanks

I'm sure it is a combination of things. Eating junk food will definitely make you feel like crap. You're probably missing out on a lot of nutrients that you need from fruits and veggies and you probably need to take vitamins. I haven't eaten since yesterday morning and I usually just don't eat when I'm depressed. I hate trying to figure out what foods to eat. It costs a lot of money and time and effort to try to cook something. Maybe try to force yourself to cook something instead of sleeping all those hours and see if you feel any different?
Thanks for this!

Could you also have something that could bring you down physically, in addition to the depression? Like low B12, low Vitamin D, low iron? I think depression alone can definitely be the cause of your sleeping and feeling so physically weak, but maybe you'll get lucky (I know, lucky, ha!) and find you have something else to treat that may help you.

I had a very low Vit. D level, and was so weak I could hardly be out of bed at all, and taking a shower took everything I had. I treated the low D and was surprised to find my energy and stamina improved significantly within about 8 weeks. Still depressed, but no longer feel like I'm gonna die just from taking a shower. It's a start.

Hope you find some relief soon.

I've had depression make me sleep too much but then have insomnia, several days of each at a time. Severe depression makes me hurt everywhere, like my limbs weigh 500 pounds each, and exercising doesn't help lift that feeling at all no matter how many doctors, friends, or well-meaning people tell me it will. It just makes me hurt more and feel more exhausted. Perhaps it changes peoples' chemical imbalances sometimes but it sure hasn't changed mine. I get hungry, sort of, but nothing sounds good so I end up just having bowls of cereal or cups of tea. I try to eat fruit every day and take multivitamins to get some nutrients into me, but I don't always care enough to make the effort. (Because peeling a banana is about as much effort as I'll put forth. Everything else seems like so. much. work.) I was on Zoloft then switched to Wellbutrin which didn't work at all, but now on Celexa which is somewhat better. At least I'm getting up and doing a few things around the house on most days, but it's hard when my body feels like it can't resist gravity no matter how much I want it to. Anyway, you're not alone feeling the way you do. I hope you find a med that helps, and can eat some foods that help you feel stronger. Good luck to you.
