I was just wondering if anyone can give me any kind of advice. I have been on Zoloft for a couple of months and it really isnt doing anything for me. How do I bring it up to my doctor? I hate to ask to change it. Do I just need to keep taking it and eventually start feeling like it is working or do I just need to make the change?

I suggest actively participating in your treatment.
Tell the Doc everything and anything. The more info your team has, the better they can help you. Best Wishes ![]() |

Zoloft didn't work for me either - I just told my pdoc that I didn't feel any different and he suggested a change. Just be open about everything and he / she'll know what the best option for you is. Good luck!

I'd say its certainly worth bringing up, if its not helping for that long its likely it won't suddenly start helping not to mention most pills can have side effects even they aren't things you notice right away...so no sense in taking a pill if its not doing anything for you.
Usually with me any meds I have tried for depression just don't work, or cause other unpleasant effects that make me feel worse over-all which obviously does not help my depression. I always mention if I try something and it doesn't work to the doctor though except her schedule is usually pretty full so sometimes it takes a while to talk to her about it...she did say to stop the last one I tried if I got allergy like symptoms within the first week which I did. I have never had zoloft but I did try prozac which made me more anxious and from what I understand zoloft and prozac are similar.

By all means tell your Dr. Maybe you just need an increase. You have every right to tell your doc you want to try another med, but I'd stick with the zoloft for a while. It works very slowly, and improvement is so gradual that you may not notice day to day. I've been on and off zoloft for years and done well (when I take it as I am supposed to).

Don't quote me as a scientific source, but I read somewhere that most antidepressants are only effective on 30% of the population. So that's why there is a trend to try people on two at once more or less increasing the odds that they hit one that works for that person. Maybe mention this to your doc and ask to be switched to two different ones and see.

Maybe give it two more weeks and if no improvement request a change. You have every right to do that. I like to give them a fair chance though as they can take awhile to work if they are gonna.

That's enough time to notice it's not working. Just ask for a different medication

Try an SNRI. SSRIs never did much of anything for me.
