I found out yesterday that I am having to do TMJ Treatment. which means giving up on Clarinet for 9 months. Playing clarinet is a coping skill that has worked for awhile. and now I can't play it becasue of pain, and soon to be something in my mouth. I'm 13 days clean from addiction, I've never wanted it so bad, and coping skills are failing. I haven't felt like doing much, I know that this is getting bad, and who can I turn to... I don't want to go to class. I need to find another coping skill that will wok. I just don't know what.

My mom has always been fond of saying "when God closes one door, he opens a new one."
Religion aside, I see an opportunity to take up a new hobby. Perhaps piano or guitar or even something not musical related. Model building. Building a doll house can be as easy or intensive as one wants. Perhaps decided to read all of the Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings books, that would consume someone for quite a minute. Just a thought, best wishes for you. |

Puzz, it will be difficult. But over the next 9 months, I have a feeling that you'll come across a new passion that you never knew you had. Keep hanging in there.

I had to stop playing clarinet when I was in middle school because I got braces on my teeth. I started playing oboe which was okay but a year later started playing my friend's trumpet. I developed a passion for trumpet that I didn't have for the clarinet.
