I have found myself doing this more and more, trying to get the krinkle in the corner of the eye so it looks genuine. I hate getting questions and a good smile lets me slide into the background.

What about you?

All the time, I'm also always told by "others" to remember to smile when going out.

I don't smile, haven't since I was maybe 10. I mean one slips out occasionally, but as soon as I catch myself I make it stop.
Thanks for this!

As well as being a man of constant sorrow, I am also a man of gloomy countenance. People get alarmed if I practice any sort of smile. But I do try to avoid moods where the frown it too intimidating.

No, but for years I always smile at people like an exercise. I think I did it
because somebody told me that I was always too serious. Then people would comment that it was great that I was an smiling person ( I mean some people)

Yeah because I get chubby cheeks so I try to smile such that the damn things don't make their appearance.

I can smile/laugh very genuinely even if I'm not feeling it though.

No, don't really see any real reason it seems un-natural unless there is something to laugh about. Lol sometimes I try to seem in a better mood than I am but not to the extent I pull off a convincing smile....doesn't really work if you force a laugh/smile and you have an empty stare I think most people just prefer I didn't try in those instances...

I did try for a while in like middle school thinking it might make me easier to approach, all I really got out of it is my face hurting no real bonding with any other students or making actual friends just took longer for people to ostracize me since I guess it made me seem more normal essentially.

Don't practice my smile. I am 55 and have come to the conclusion that it is what it is. If I feel good, I smile. If not, forget it.

I work retail, so part of my job is smiling at people and greeting them. I actually find that if I smile at someone and they smile back, it makes me feel a little better. Probably ridiculously over-sentimental on my part, but hey, we should take our sunshine where we can get it, right?
Thanks for this!

I fake smiles quite often, they feel cheap and nasty but they do help keep a safe distance between the world and me. My doctor says he can gauge my mood by whether I attempt to smile when he greets me, he always comments on how much my expression transforms and animates when the depression lifts.
