I find that I'm losing a lot of hair, especially when I'm feeling really down. Approximately 30-120 strands of hair per shower depending on how terrible I feel. I'm a 19 year old girl by the way. I find this mildly concerning- not sure if it is cause for concern- but I do wonder how long it'll take before my hair loss becomes really visible.

I'm not sure that 30 to 100 strands is a lot as in normal/average hair loss. It may be a lot for you but you may just notice it more at those times. I suppose some meds could cause hair loss. I've noticed an ebb and wane in hair loss but I couldn't say what the cause was in either case. This may be interesting to you: How Hair Grows, Thinning Hair, Hair Loss Types and Causes

I know Sertraline can cause hair loss but it's very rare, If I recall Fluexotine can but very rare also. As the person before me said, it's possible you're simply noticing it more but if it's a concern probably best to ask your GP.

I would have to agree with Frost if it is something that is causing you to worry you should bring it up to your PCM.

There are lots factors that can influence hair loss. Medication may be involved, I have known some people have hair loss as a stress reaction, others as part of autoimmune conditions and others due to lack of nutrition. All of these things are best addressed by a medical professional.

Best of luck, and I hope things work out for you

I'm losing a lot of hair, too but thought it was the Warfarin doing it. Now, I take Ritalin, too and I think that can cause hair loss, also. I would think that might be a side effect of a med. It sucks whatever causes it. :-)

Thank you everyone for your responses!

The reason why it is a concern for me is because the rest of my family probably would lose that much in two weeks time. So I am losing significantly more than them. Also, I am not taking any sort of medication at the moment. In that case, I'm guessing that it is because of stress...?

I have also noticed an increase in hair loss lately. I'm losing so much at this point that it's alarming! I read somewhere that after a very intense period of stress, it may be common to lose alot of hair.
