I have thought long and hard about getting a tattoo and have decided that I really do want to get one. I want it to represent what ive been through in my life: depression, anorexia, anxiety and self injury. I want it on my wrist and not to be too big, maybe a word or short phrase... Any ideas for what I should get? Words or phrases I can use? Symbols etc?

I like the idea of a symbol. I have my own personal one I came up with years ago but I would never get a tatt. Its just in my mind.

I'd wait until I knew what "I" wanted before I permanently put something on my body.

This is too personal to let others decide for you.

Sincerely,
Pfrog!

I have tattoos. It's something that I think should come from deep inside you. Something that means something to you. You will know it when it feels right.

You'll know the right one when you find it. A good artist will sit down with you and talk about it, what it means and maybe help you design one. You should offer to pay for the design consult even if they don't ask, it is still work for them to do it.

It took me a year from the point when I decided I wanted one to when I actually got one. Like you I wanted something that was going to be symbolic of what I had been through. I took that time to figure out what I wanted, research artists, and make sure I was going to be in a good frame of mind to get it.

I love my tattoo. I thought I would get something small but I ended up with a rather large piece that goes from my hip to half way up my rib cage. My tattoo artist was fantastic and so understanding of my needs, and the importance of this tattoo for me, and I brought a friend who held my hand and documented the process for me.

I am available if you have any questions, but I would say take your time, because looking at your tattoo everyday should be a joyful experience and part of getting there is being mindful about the process
Thanks for this!
