That is interesting, and makes sense to me...That does also seem to describe me kind of well. But yeah I also am on the autism spectrum and sensory issues are kind of common which can also contribute to being more sensative to stimuli...but seems like more of a lack of filtering than like actually having stronger senses. But yeah I think this has kind of contributed to my depression since I know I have much of the time through life been stuck in environments that are over-stimulating...hard to explain to people that sometimes even positive stress is just too much at once. For instance if a family member is having a birthday sure I want to celebrate with them...but I am the person that may have to leave early or periodically disappear from the group to go somewhere more quiet and give myself a little break even though its not like a 'bad' situation.

I can totally relate to this article. It is me in a nutshell. I was raised in an alcoholic home and I am hyper-sensitive. I believe that not only do I have a tendency towards depression but I also have PTSD from that environment, I also had an over-stimulating career in the medical field that did not help at all. Thanks for posting this! |
