Since quite some time, i have felt like i have hardly any emotions in me. (Could be one or two years by now)
Recently i have noticed that whenever i TRY to bring up strong sadness or happiness, i have a gag reflex. When i try it multiple times, i will most likely throw up. It's like my brain wants to stop me from feeling sad or happy.
When i was a kid, i always tried to hide my emotions from others, i never showed that i was very happy and i never cried in front of anyone (I think i was just really shy). This might have led to some kind of emotional suppression that has slowly brought me to the condition i am in right now, but i have no idea how to get out of it. Does anyone have expierience with this, and maybe some advice?

Hello passionseeker: I don't have any experience with this particular symptom. Assuming that there's nothing physically wrong, then I would think seeing a therapist might be the best thing to do.

It could be this is related to stress & anxiety. To the extent this is the case, anything that is useful for decreasing stress & anxiety could, potentially, be of value with regard to this gag reflex you're struggling with. Such things might include: exercise, meditation, medications, etc. I'm sure you've heard all of this before.

I've certainly had my own bevy of anxiety-related symptoms over the years. For example, there was a period of time when my eyes would flutter up-&-down repeatedly & uncontrollably. I didn't do anything about it. After a while, it just went away.

Hello & Welcome, Passionseeker. Research Conversion Disorder - it may or may not have anything to do with what you are experiencing, but it's worth considering.

Hi Skeezyks

Thank you for your answer

I have never done such things as meditation.
Although i'm not sure if reducing stress/anxiety will help with my issue if it acually originates in those childhood things, i'll give it a try
Has meditation helped you with similar problems before?
