I spent over a year in that state, but I'm coming out of it now. I hope you have a professional to help you though this time. I did nothing, didn't ask for help until things had been bad for a long time. Wish I had gotten the help sooner. If you have someone but it's not working find someone who can help. You are worth it.

I think you are right that the sitting around can be related to depression. It's hard to stop!

I've been doing that a lot lately, have been having pretty low energy...forcing myself to get out of bed and get on with responsibilities and anything I have to do as well as trying to keep up with spending time with my brother, our friend and keep relations pleasant with my mom and her boyfriend as I still live with them.

But yeah I've just been feeling exausted, finding it difficult to bring myself to even do things I enjoy...like I plan to do something like listen to music and organize my room so its a little more pleasant, or just play a video game for a while and just end up sitting there feeling depressed its certainly been irritating me.

I get those days, too. Sometimes if studying is too hard, it's easier to watch some educational videos online.

Sure sounds like the depression I suffer from. Have been a bit better lately but spent most of the last two years like that.

I have these problems a lot, too. They're definitely depression symptoms. I'm pretty new to these forums, so I don't know if you're diagnosed and on meds or if you go to psychotherapy.

Poor diet or skipping meals can make this worse. I feel depressed and it's really hard to bring myself to cook anything. Sometimes I wait until I'm weak and dizzy before I eat. My mood and energy levels are especially affected if I go to sleep hungry.

There's something called "executive function" which I think is a brain task/function that's not happening the way it's supposed to when we "sit around" and feel disorganized. If you want to google it. I did, to remind me what my brain is supposed to be doing and what it *does* do when it's working properly.

I hope things improve for you.

p.s. forgot to say that there are medical conditions like low thyroid levels that can cause similar symptoms. Sometimes if we're diagnosed with mental health conditions, treatable medical conditions can get overlooked.

My depression does involve me sitting around a lot, too much time on computer message boards or facebook instead of taking pleasure in a hobby or something. I'm just disinclined, as another poster said, to do much.

And yes, a lot of activities, like basic household responsibilities, just seem like such an arduous task to me.

I can really relate. I think I've suffered with depression for years but I haven't been diagnosed with it, actually just last year I realized what I was suffering from was in fact depression. My anxiety tied into my depression and they feed off each other. It's difficult to lead a productive life with depression, everything feels like an ordeal. Even leaving the house and socializing feels like an ordeal.

Yes that is probably all depression and I have had all those features myself. If you haven't already seen it, have a look at this:

http://forums.psychcentral.com/depre...n-escaped.html

You'll find an explanation of WHY you feel that way and what you can do about it.

Certainly sounds like the depression I have. Taking a shower is just such a task, going to get the mail takes hours of convincing myself to do it. Yup, pretty sure its depression. I do take meds for anxiety and depression. Sometimes it helps and sometimes it does not. I am sorry you are feeling this way, I know it sucks.

Do you have a good P Doc or Therapist?
Thanks for this!

Yes, I take Cymbalta for depression and for fibromyalgia pain. I take Klonopin for "twitching" and anxiety, and I take Ambien for sleep.

The Cymbalta worked really well at first, but now it's just so-so. I may be getting a new med to augment it soon. Not sure yet.
