I am new here. I was diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder years ago. I have struggled to help people realize that i am not my disorder. Any advice??

Hi beyondhelp87

Welcome to PC. I missed your first post in the new member introductions forum. It is very true that you are not your disorder. You are your name and you have major depression. I have always believed that we should not say....I am depressed or I am bipolar. You are not your illness. You are a unique human being with an illness. All I can say is that you are most correct. I hope that you are doing ok and please keep reaching out at home and here. ((hugs))
