A good start, if you don't have any personal contacts, is to simply do a google search for your city name and "mental health" or mental health services, or counseling, or anything like that. You'll usually end up with at least numbers you could call. At that point, you can start shopping around for a therapist, or even ask doctors and whatnot for referrals.
There's no harm in trying out a therapist and looking for another if it's not working out. Don't pressure yourself into having to find the "perfect" therapist, they don't exists. ![]() Good luck! |

You could try calling or going to the local chapter of the Canadian Mental Health Association. They are usually good with helping people find a therapist or service. They may even offer to take you on as client. You could also try a community health centre. These places usually offer therapy and have access to physicians if medical intervention is required. Your city's website may also list resources. It may even have a 211 service (social and communities services) for residents to call like Ottawa does. The Emergency Department and walk-in clinics are other options. Personally, I'd try the other options first, because they are more human and respectful.
