How do i make my dad and stepmom understand that i can't just snap out of it? I'm going for an intensive psychiatric evaluation today because of some issues that are compounding by a certain event.. a trigger. Dad & Toni think i can just get myself together.. and i can't. They say they support me and that i should get the help i need. But i can't help thinking that they just don't understand. I've given them stuff to read, they know about it. They just don't understand that i can't snap out of it. Any insight?

Sounds like you may be the one telling yourself to "snap out of it (we are hardest on ourselves)" I hope you find some compassion for yourself, and don't be affected by anyone who would say "Why can't you just snap out of it?" especially if that person is you. If your parents have said this, it is sad but true, some people think that way, and be glad they also are making an effort to support you so you can get help with whatever these issues are. |
