I hope this is in the right spot and I'm not breaking any rules or anything
I've been struggling with depression and PTSD most of my life and had a pretty crummy childhood. So now it's hard to do things and be motivated. Last year I made a list of 365 things to do but it fell through when I went through a bad job situation. But now I'm starting it back up on a larger scale with 1000 things to do in my life You can check here if you want: One Thousand Things - One Thousand Things Lists like that seem to motivate me to actually do the things and I've already started working on a few of the projects. It's still hard with some stuff and I'm going to try for medication soon and I'm really nervous Anyways um I just wanted to talk about motivation and how I'm trying to keep motivated and push through this so I don't regret my life and feel like I'm doing nothing. Feel free to share some tips about what motivates you and how you stick to projects |

(((octoberpumpkin))) Thanks for sharing this. I use lists also!! It does help to keep one motivated and focused. I'm sorry to hear about the bad job situation. It sounds like you have gotten up, dusted yourself off and moved forward. Good for you. Meds can be scary but they can be helpful. I wish you the best!!!!

This is a wonderful idea! I've been pretty low on motivation myself lately and have an overwhelming assortment of tasks I keep putting off. Your list gave me an idea though...
I'm fully aware that I'm an expert procrastinator, but perhaps coming up with a list similar to yours that describes things I want to do or accomplish for fun/my well-being could help motivate me to get the tasks done that intimidate me. Like for every item on my "to-do-list-that-overwhelms-me", I can reward myself with doing something off of the fun list. Thanks for the inspiration!

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us, it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. ~Marianne Williamson |

i'm so glad you're keeping yourself motivated. i find that motivation and determination are completely eroded whilst in the depths of depression. i feel so much more motivated these days than i did when i was really ill.

That is the exact word that I was hung up on yesterday as I was in my individual therapy session.....
I know that "my darkness" has returned. And I just feel no motivation to fight it. :/ |

What worked amazingly well for me is "SNAP CLUB" described in the first few posts of this thread http://forums.psychcentral.com/depre...n-escaped.html It may sound kind of silly but it can have a HUGE effect and it's quite easy to try. ![]() |
