Due to a conflict with my meds doctor - I will likely run out of meds in the somewhat near future.

What are you opinions of simply stop taking depression/anxiety meds?

Personally, I have never been a fan of ANY human being taking any kind of medicines "for the rest of your life". So, I am in favor of just stopping.

I think that any meds you go off of, you should go off them slowly. I tapered off all my meds and didn't have withdrawals. The issue with quitting cold turkey is the chemical hell it can wreak on the body. I would slowly start cutting back doses if you are going to run out of meds.
Thanks for this!

Hi IDM,

"What are you opinions of simply stop taking depression/anxiety meds?" DON'T!!!!
It's one thing trying to gradually reduce them, but just stopping.........well that's a completely different thing!!! PLEASE DON'T!!!

"Personally, I have never been a fan of ANY human being taking any kind of medicines "for the rest of your life".
You know I do completely respect that opinion, as I'm sure a lot of people will. And who knows, maybe in time you will find other things that work for you that can replace medication..........and the medication can be gradually reduced until...........
But then again I'd say if you need it, then you need it, and that's "OK" too. In some circumstances it'd be kind of like telling someone who's diabetic that they shouldn't be so reliant on insulin.
It really comes down to what's best for you.

So, the conflict with your meds doctor.........do you think there can be any sort of resolve or compromise going on there??? Or perhaps it would be better to try visiting another doctor, having another discussion, getting another opinion??? Maybe check around for options???

But please don't just stop the medication.

There's a vast difference between taking a med forever and discontinuing properly.

You might get some ideas of what to do instead from here

and, as CI says, taper slowly.

Agreed, IDM. To stop medication suddenly is very bad. I have been on an ultra slow taper of a benzo. I could not deal with what it would do to me mentally to abruptly stop. Please share all your concerns with the doc, nurse, therapist at your clinic.

Do not stop....aka....cold turkey.....trust me.....spiral downwards to that really bad place....even gradually...could really spell disaster in the long run....get other opinions...telling you from experience.....Artie
