Last night was a big struggle. I tool a sleep aid, went to sleep by 9 and woke at 11 then again at 3. My mind just races. Very hard for me to anything. I'm at work now but can't wait to go home and crawl in good and shut the world out.

You might try relaxation techniques to help calm your mind. When my mind races I turn my attention to my breathing and count my breaths. It usually quiets my mind and lets me go to sleep. I actually have an app on my phone that helps me if I have a particularly bad time with thought stopping. It's called Relax and I have another one that I use called Buddhify. Good luck.

Gayleggg made a good suggestion. There are many audios through which you can learn relaxation, even meditation to help you sleep.

There is another technique which consists on recalling scene by scene a book or a movie you like a lot, so little by little you can reach your sleep.

I hope this help you.

Sleep is very important. I am a strong advokate for melatonin. It is a hormone from your pineal gland that lets your body know that it is dark outside, and hey it's time to go to sleep. I have given it to many patients and the side effect are very few to harmless. 0.5mg is all that is needed but your dc may prescribe 3mg (usual dose). You will have dreams as well (but don't worry they will not be bad). Ask your doctor, i am just a nurse that is going to go to a nurse practitioner program.
