Okay, so last night I had to go to Urgent care to get a note for work, and the lady took my temp with one of those under the tounge things. After that, it was all over for me. I'm SO SCARED that I might have contracted the stomach flu from it!!! I aske her if it was clean and she she said they were steril, but I'm still so scared. This morning I aw breakfast and my stomach gurgled I immediately got scared and have been scared ever since. I feel like I can't breathe and I have to drive to college still. I tried some grape juice and I thought it made me feel weird... but maybe it's anxiety that's making me feel weird. Long story short, how long would it take for the flu to stay showing symptoms? If I was gonna get it, do you think it would have happened by now? This happened at about 6 something last night maybe, so between the 8+ hours of sleep and the couple hours into this morning, and I safe??? Please and thank you in advance. I'm so scared, my brain is like 85% convinced I have the flu.
Hugs from:

shanetheartist, relax! YOU DONīT!

At least not from the thing from the hospital. They have very very strict rules for keeping stuff steril. If you had it, or got it, it would be a big coincidence. Not from that. I can tell you, because my mother is a nurse at the hospital.

A few other things... even if it wasnīt clean (which it was), who is to tell that it had bacteria for stomach flu on it? That isnīt a given either.

And also, even if you did have it (which I donīt think you do), what would be sooo horrible about it? It is not a deathly disease, itīs just a bug that would clear up after 24-48 hours anyways... so not the end of the world.

If you are feeling sick, itīs from worrying about it, which you can stop rightnow.

Anyways, I donīt think that anything I or anyone else will say to you will stop you from worrying because itīs a psychological condition and irrational fear you have obviously (Iīve been there, donīt feel bad!)

Are you in therapy? If not, really try and go there it will help you more than anyone here will be able to

From the Mayo Clinic site:
Quote:
Depending on the cause, viral gastroenteritis symptoms may appear within one to three days after you're infected...
I believe you are correct in thinking anxiety is the most likely cause of how you are feeling.

One of my doctors' offices still uses under-the-tongue thermometers with disposable sterile guards, but one of the others now always uses a forehead-scan (temporal) thermometer. In the future could you request scanning with a temporal thermometer?

It would have been sterile, they wouldn't dare do otherwise. (I used to work in a hospital). Anxiety often feels a lot like stomach flu and we can also suggest ourselves into having symptoms. I remember when a patient came in with fleas and all of us who had been near him/her started to itch! Not one of us had caught them. You are not mad or silly but you don't need to worry that you caught anything from the hospital.
