Not quite a depressing song, but very emotional for me, as it signifies me, in such a way that makes me wish.... You know.

Eminem: Not Afraid.

E.G.:

“You can try and read my lyrics off of this paper before I lay 'em
But you won't take the sting out these words before I say 'em
Cause ain't no way I'ma let you stop me from causing mayhem
When I say I'ma do something I do it,
I don't give a damn what you think,
I'm doing this for me, so *censored* the world
Feed it beans, it's gassed up, if it thinks it's stopping me
I'ma be what I set out to be, without a doubt undoubtedly
And all those who look down on me I'm tearing down your balcony”

Yep. That feels like me. 'Cept I can't do any of the tearing bit, unfortunately, or possibly fortunately.
…?

These are some of the songs on my depressing play list. Some are sad due to the meaning of the lyrics while others because of associations to either
movies or real life and finally some are because the sound alone is depressing.

Bitter sweet symphony - The Verve
Jonestown Tea - Otep
Wonderful - Everclear
Mad World - Gary Jules
Objects in the rear view mirror may appear closer then they are - Meatloaf
No rain - Blind melon
Hurt - NIN
My body is a cage - Peter Gabriel
Angel - Sarah McLachlan
Requiem for a Dream - Clint Mansell
Last to Know - Three days grace
Burn - The cure
Zombies - The Cranberries
Lovers - House of flying daggers soundtrack
Runaway train - Soul asylum
What its like - Everlast
Wrong side of heaven - Five finger death punch
.45 - Shinedown
In color - Jamey johnson
Long Black Train - Josh turner
Rhiannon and Dreams - Fleatwood mac
Concrete Angel - Martina McBride
Blown Away - Carrie Underwood

everything by lana del rey... it's just me and what I want to be. It makes me so happy but so sad. I love her music, I wish people understood just how much it makes me feel. It helps me not feel lifeless anymore and it's the best feeling.

Staying - Koda
The Warmth - Koda
I'll Be Good - Jaymes Young
Between Love And Hate - The Strokes

I wouldn't say these songs are really sad, they're just emotional. I really need more songs to listen to though.

Sarah McLachlan - In the arms of an angel

so tired of the straight line and everywhere you turn there's vultures and thieves at your back
and the storm keeps on twisting
you keep on building the lies that you make up for all that you lack
it don't make no difference
escaping one last time
it's easier to believe in this sweet madness oh
this glorious sadness that brings me to my knees in the arms of the angel
fly away from here from this dark cold hotel roomand the endlessness that you fear
you are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie you're in the arms of the angel may you find some comfort here you're in the arms of the angel may you find some comfort here

Ah... this song takes me back like no other...

Sad music generally synapses with depressive episodes for me. I usually avoid listening to music (something I hate to do and admit) but it's' usually a pretty strong signal to me that I'm entering an episode when little by little I start listening to songs by Modest Mouse (especially Lonesome Crowded West),
"eyepennies" by sparklehorse.. and the whole album (It's a Wonderful Life)
"suffocation keep" by the slip
"John Wayne Gacy, Jr." by Sufjan Stevens
"The Moon" by the Microphones
"Barnacles" by Ugly Casanova
-the album "Lost and Safe" by the Books.

There's a lot, and I'm not so sure they are depressing songs or they are sentimental of times of depression and loss in my life.

This isn't a song, but a poem: to me, it really describes the "out of control"-ness of my depression and my life in general.

The poem is the first paragraph of "The Second Coming" by William Butler Yeats.

Turning and turning in the widening gyre,
the falcon cannot hear the falconer.
Things fall apart, the center cannot hold;
mere anarchy is loosed upon the world
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

"Tender Years" - Sandy Denny, a really sad song about her school friend that died. I can't listen to it a lot or it becomes a trigger.
