On the one hand I will be starting a new job in two weeks. I am excited and happy about that. On the other hand I am nervous. Maybe two years of trauma from my present job has beaten me down. I still have so many self doubts. Yet I passed the interview.

I have to take several tests. The first is a written test for my CDL. (Commercial Drivers License). I also have to pass a DOT physical. My blood pressure has to be good for the physical in order to pass. I am also concerned about the physical because I have been on wellbutrin for depression, and amitriptyline for migraine headache prevention. Not to mention maxalt and/or fioricet to treat an active migraine. I am worried that those meds might keep me from passing a DOT physical. I will not lie and decline to list these meds. For one thing they do a drug test. I don't take any medicine other than what my GP prescribed. Of course I do not drive if I have to take the maxalt or fioricet. Another thing, I have not had any migraines since I applied for this new job.

What if I can't pass the physical or the driver tests. I think I can pass most of the written tests.

I don't want any more disappointments. It is time for life to change and improve. I have already given two weeks notice to the office of doom. I really don't want to have myself where I have no job. But I also have to take a chance to change my circumstances.

Just a bit nervous. I keep reciting Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

I would think you would have less stress if you had not given your notice until after passing the CDL, especially without knowledge of what the drug requirements are for CDL. Is there anyway to find CDL allowable drugs permitted right away so you can hold onto your job if you are automatically disqualified. Checking with the state you live in registry or searching their website online might give you important information.

I gave in my two weeks notice because at the end of the job interview, the manager offered me a job. Then he told me to go ahead and give my notice to my employer and he wanted me to start as soon as I am available. I am hoping I can come off of these meds but I don't want to do it "cold turkey" as that could be worse.

The blood pressure medicine I am on won't be a problem as long as it controls my blood pressure.

Hi waterknob, if the physical/job was a really rigorous one demanding very high standards of "fitness" then I would imagine they would have discussed it in the interview to see whether you may be eligible.........I'm sure they'd want to quickly cross off candidates not possibly up to a high standard saving themselves having to wait for people to start work and them having to pay for/arrange physicals when the candidate might easily fall below standard and be unemployable anyway. Make sense??
And your blood pressure..........you're on medication so now maybe the best thing to do is try and control your stress levels :
Everything IS looking really hopeful........and you've deserved this "break"!!!
You are putting behind you a job which was/is pretty close to intolerable, right?? You've sailed through an interview for another job and not only that you've impressed them enough to be offered the job, you know you can do well with the written tests (judging by the job you're in and ALL the knowledge you've needed to acquire for that!!!), the migraines are better right now meaning you're a lot less likely to need any medication (the maxalt or fioricet) which may impact on your new career........!!!!
And if those thoughts aren't helping your stress levels and blood pressure enough (!!) well what about trying some relaxation techniques........plenty out there to choose from
But ultimately, wherever this goes........really glad you're going to be away from the job you're in right now.......
So.........what do I say.........good luck........best wishes.........thoughts are with you.........all the best.......????
Tell you what.........all them and more!!!!
Alison

Don't come off anything cold turkey, at best you will ramp up the pressure on yourself, at worst you will make yourself ill. Usually the advice with psych meds is that it is OK to drive if they don't make you drowsy. So try to get some good rest to minimise the chances of that happening. If you can get a doctor's appt before your medical then try and do so, he can advise you on tapering down on the meds if that is what he thinks is best.

Don't worry about having given in your notice, there is always a reason for things happening and the reason is the old job was making you ill, you were at breaking point. Without the pressure from that job, you will be able to see your way through far more clearly.
