So movies like side effect (with rooney mara) make medication prescriptions look like its taken by the successful people, doctors, lawyers, musicians, actors, etc. take medications like that. Is it really seen as that?

I did not know they where particularly portrayed that way specifically....either way there are successful career oriented people that do take medications, though they hardly represent everyone who takes medication.

I think its just portrayed as a "legal" way to get high by abusing prescription medications. Like, why troll the streets for drugs when you can just bs your doctor? Plenty of wealthy people do coke and heroin too, though.

I haven't seen the movie, so I don't know exactly what you mean. I guess it's because some non-generic medications are quite expensive?

On the other hand, it's interesting you should call it a "rich person" thing, because often poorer people are on meds that aren't the best for them because medication can be cheap in comparison to other things. For example, nursing homes and other institutions will put individuals on unnecessary antipsychotics rather than dealing more effectively with health/behavioral problems. Also, sometimes young kids who are poor or are in foster homes will be placed on meds instead of receiving therapy or having their situation improved in some way.

It's all about what's cost effective in many cases.

Saw a drug commercial a couple of days ago that showed the "depressed" person leaping through life sailing & dancing & driving an expensive car after taking the medication-told my husband it reminded my of tampon commercials back in the day when it showed the girls horseback riding, doing archery & being lifeguards
