I have suicidal thoughts and I am afraid to tell my psychiatrist. I am afraid because if she does decide to send me to the

hospital, I heard that I will be handcuffed by a cop or have my hands and feet tied to the gurney if it's an ambulance

during transportation, even if I don't fight and I accept to go voluntarily.

Is this true? I am afraid to tell her in case of this.

I'm not sure what the laws are in your country. (It varies from country to country.)

Hopefully someone from Romania will respond. If not, can you ask someone where you live?

I know that in other countries, you'll only be sectioned (forced hospitalization) if you are a risk to yourself or others. That is, if you are only thinking of suicide but have no intentions of acting on it, you won't be hospitalized. My therapist/psychiatrist said it was only hospital time if I was to the point where I knew for sure that I was going to hurt myself. Otherwise, I was to use my coping skills to get through the moment or call a suicide hotline.

Do you have a suicide hotline in your country that you can call?

I was never taken by ambulance so I wouldn't know. Definitely make a call to a hotline if you can. I voluntarily went in to the hospital where I was confined and watched for a day. Stay safe.

But what if my suicide thoughts are strong enough that the psychiatrist decides that I need hospitalization? Will they still tie me up even if I agree to go in voluntarily?
I am not sure if she will say I need to be hospitalized or not, but I want to know if the outcome is that I will be tied up and humiliated if she says I need to. I am quite afraid of that.

I don't know the laws in Romania. All this stuff I read is in english from the internet, so most likely USA/UK. I can only asume in Romania is always as bad if not worse. Definitely not better lol.

Uhm, by confined you mean restrained? Even if you weren't violent? English is not my native language, sorry.

Hi

I believe your mind is terrifying you about the consequences if you say you are suicidal to your psychiatrist. please don't let these anxious thoughts get the better of you. i believe your psychiatrist will get you admitted to a hospital and start you on a medication which will calm you down. someone will be there to watch you so that you don't attempt. remember you are not aggressive or hysteric to be confined to chains. you are just extremely sad and hopeless and need of comfort.

In my country you're not sectioned if you go voluntarily and you're not restrained if you're not sectioned. Even if you're in voluntarily, though, they can section you if they think you need to be restrained/confined and you disagree.

But they don't restrain/confine you if you promise not to attempt suicide and they likely won't admit you either if you promise.

I wasn't. I was in a car without inside handles, but it was a normal car. I couldn't drive myself. They tried to keep things as normal and calm as possible. But I hadn't attempted at that point, I was just clearly on my way.

I think it's a lot better if you go before you attempt. They see you as a rational person who needs help, rather than someone who's gone off the deep end and is dangerous.
