Having a hard time standing myself right now. could I BE a bigger loser? could I BE a bigger loser? could I BE a bigger loser?

This nice lady I've written about before who runs a ballet school across the street from my office sent me a great story idea. She sent it awhile ago, though, and I'm really bad about writing things down on a calendar. I'm lucky just to get through each day on the fly -- unscheduled stuff is the nature of my job.

Anyway, I managed to miss everything I could have stood to go to, except for today. It was my last chance for pictures and talking to the dancers and whatnot -- their spring recital.

I am in trouble because I assumed it was at the office across the street, so when I went over there at 1:15 for the 1:30 recital, there were no cars, and the door was locked. Meaning it's somewhere else, I missed it yet again, and I'm now screwed on this story.

I am mucking up this job something fierce as it is, and I'm having a crappy, crappy day as it is, and I wonder if I am ever going to do anything right, ever again. could I BE a bigger loser?

Mercifully, I see pdoc tomorrow, but I had been feeling better -- I just don't know yet if this is going to be a temporary episode or if I am going to spiral down again.

could I BE a bigger loser? I used to pride myself on being a competent person who could push through my mental health issues and still do a decent job.....I wish I knew what happened. could I BE a bigger loser?

Candy

That loser label is a tough one. I have had lots of trouble holding a job and understand what you're talking about. My docs say I'm a big :"winner" because I'm finally focusing on healing, assuming that's possible. Some days for me as you report today.

Hi Candy,

I'm not trying to minimize your situation, but one mistake doesn't mean you're a big loser. People get the wrong location, time, sometimes even day wrong all the time. I think the difference is that people with mental health concerns tend to be their own worst enemy. It was a mistake, it's not as if you weren't there sincerely to get the job done.

Is there anything you can do today to rectify the situation? If yes, then do it, get it over with, otherwise you'll ruminate. If there isn't anything you can do until tomorrow, I would try to put it on the back-burner, since torturing yourself isn't going to serve any purpose other than to make you feel worse.

I can feel your frustration just by reading your post (the head bangers gave it away, go figure.) I hope you can be easier on yourself. It was a misunderstanding.

Please take care!

What happened you ask? I'll tell you m'dear, you are human and something went kaflooey along the way. Like you said, being in the newspaper business means running on the fly. Nothing that is planned is in stone only sand.

I too work in the newspaper business, but not as a reporter. I'm in circulation. Believe me, as chaotic as your world can be, so can circulation at any given moment! I too have forgotten things and messed up more than my own day because of it...but hell, we're just human and things happen.

Could you be a big looser?? NO WAY I say! Could you be a big human....to that...all the way!

Hang in there ((((((((((((candybear)))))))))))) You will get through this, take it easy on yourself....I'm sure you are your own worst enemy could I BE a bigger loser?

Hugsssssssss

Candy,

Try not to worry. Like the others have said, everyone makes a mistake every now and again, and I bet there's no one here or anywhere in the world who hasn't done something similar at some point.

Hope you feel better soon

OK I am nowhere near being able to give you advice.

But maybe ... you could contact ballet lady and ask to do a story on the school, ask if the girls can dress in their recital costumes to show themselves off to the public, and mention how well the recent recital went. Maybe the ballet teacher has a couple of actual pics from the recital.

Position it as something that ppl may want to get their children in - not blatent advertising, but put the spin that it's a great source of enjoyment for the girls in your town ...

Oh I am sorry, I am just trying to come up with some spin that can emphasise the recital that you ooopsy missed but you 'still think is important to feature'....

Just say you were out of town for that week and you are sorry but no one else was able to take the story and you would still love to talk to the dancers etc ...

Ok whatever you do good luck, and we all mess stuff up, I know as well as you do what that is like ... but I sort of think you can pull this off in a diff way / angle ...

good luck anyway.

((((((((((((Candybear)))))))))))) We all screw up. You are competent but you made a mistake. Everyone does. Give yourself hugs now when you need them the most. Okay? You're definitely NOT a loser, so quit saying/thinking that. could I BE a bigger loser?
