I worked with lead for five years
It was this time I started getting ill. Is there a way to test? Blood tests?

Yes, sure, you can definitely test for Pb. You will probably need chelation to get rid of it.

I'd take it to your GP and make an appointment with the phlebotomist for a blood test.

As said above you can get blood levels tested. But the link to depression seems very tenuous. I was doing many different things when I got my first episode of depression and I can't think of any way those things are relevant.
