I am not sure if this is the right group, so feel free to tell me if it isn't. I am stuggling with major depression right now. My Psychologist had surgery 3 weeks ago and said he would be back Monday. Turns out he will actually be out another week. I was holding on until his return, but now I feel totally hopeless. I have tried everything - medication, music, exercise, hotlines, taking a short trip - all just to get my mind on something else. Nothing has worked. I told him before he left my depression was getting worse, but we still did not make any plans for while he is gone. It has been terrible.

Hi, Texasfan

I'm sorry that you are not feeling good. Do you think having the medication looked at would be helpful the right medication can make a huge difference?. The doctors should be able to advise about that. You are doing very well holding on till the psychologist comes back. CBT therapy has been adapted for all conditions as has mindfulness and acceptance and commitment therapy, which I use. You could ask the psychologist whether any of these would be suitable for your depression.

There is Nami the organization for the mentally ill. You can Google them and contact them to see what services they have in your area. They do run peer to peer support groups which would give you extra support and the opportunity to make new friends. There is also the WRAP program. The wellness recovery action plan which is an eight week two hour session course where people formulate their own wellness plan to keep them well.

Try to keep your mind busy doing things, especially enjoyable ones that will help to take the focus away from depression. Setting and achieving small goals will build confidence that things are coming under control. I hope and pray everything improves for you soon. Take care. God bless and best wishes from your friend Francis
Thanks for this!

Hi Texansfan, this is most definitely the right place to post. I'm so sorry your psychologist was not able to keep your appointment, I really understand how you felt, I don't cope well with deferred appointments either. I hope you have been able to hold on. Have you got another appointment yet?
This is the perfect place to share and rant, there's always someone who understands. Sorry it took me so long to see your post. Keep in contact and if you're really struggling, you can private message any community liaison. They volunteer because they care and want to support you. FrancisR seems to have been there too and has offered some good advice I hope it has been of help to you.
