I haven't been on the forum for 5 months, last time I was on, I was having problems with my mental health nurse who took me off her patient list saying I wasn't trying, I wasn't opening upon to her, she sent me a letter stating the things that I hadn't opened up about. I rejected each one as I'd been very open about my depression, eating disorder, anxiety and hair pulling. I spoke to my consultant psychiatrist about her, how on numerous times she had me in tears, was cold and made me feel worthless, he didn't do much, so I brought it up again and I had my say about the letter she sent out to me. During this time my anxiety and hair pulling was getting worse and I found it difficult leaving my home. Even when I did go out it would take up to 2 hours to brush my hair over the bald patches.
My consultant informed me he was leaving, had got another job and that was in June. I'm still waiting to be seen by his replacement even though he said I'd be top priority. My GP is useless and doesn't seem to know much about eating disorders and anxiety. Sorry for going on but I feel I've been judged for having mental health issues by mental health staff. |

Sorry to hear this Buttercup, hopefully the replacement will be more understanding and helpful. Lack of empathy seems to be a theme amongst mental health patients. Understanding the issues is important since it is likely that we will know someone that will develop a problem during our lifetime.

Mr Nobody,
Never thought that mental health staff would be judgemental and this problem with the nurse had been going on for a while, who's going to believe someone with mental health problems over a nurse? At times when she did a home visit, I felt like my recovery was getting nowhere and she wasn't very motivating. I would dread her visits. Anyone can get a mental illness whether they're young or old. She should've known better. |

hi Buttercup
I am sorry that that mental health nurse treated you badly. Being judgmental and cold towards you is very unprofessional. It is unfortunate that your GP is not much help. Generally they don't understand much about mental health problems. But if you feel he is not doing the business for you. is there anyway that you can get another doctor?. I was wondering if there are any mental health advocates in your area that could push your case for you? You do have the option of going to your member of Parliament to see if you can get a better quality of service. Just keep asking your GP to refer you to another consultant as soon as possible. I hope and pray everything does get much better for you soon. Take care. God bless and best wishes from your friend Francis |

The GP was recommended to me by that awful MHN. So, I'm going to look into other GPs as when I've been to him about something he would always say that I'd need to see my consultant and when I eventually got an appt with the Consultant he told me that my GP should've helped me. It's very frustrating. I actually got an appt through from my new consultant yesterday (Saturday) for beginning of Oct. but, it's taken over 3 months. I'll see what this one is like but, I won't be taking any nonsense. |
