What does good mental health look like? For my particular issues good mental health for me has the following attributes:

* Respond appropriately to adverse events
* Care about myself as much as I care about others
* Recognize and accept situations I cannot control
* Appropriate expression of sympathy and empathy
* Absence of self destructive behaviours
* Apply shame and guilt appropriately
* Accept all emotions as they come and process in a healthy manner

What things would others add?
I posted this in depression 'cuz that's what I have. Will happily accept feedback if there was a better spot.

That's such a good list. I'm trying to think of something to add but I can't come up with anything. It seems that list embodies all of what good mental health would appear to be. Maybe to add, have a feeling of purpose or meaning, by doing something for others which would give some meaning. For myself, isolation is a problem and working on socializing and trying to have at least a few friends close by to lean on.

hi LazarusLong

Keeping a list of your achievements to reassure yourself you can do things when things don't work out for you.

Also keep a gratitude list for all of the good things in your life. Your list is absolutely great! I hope and pray you have a really great day. God bless and best wishes from your friend Francis

I like the list. I think I might it with some personal twists on the bathroom wall with a grease pencil so I can look at it every morning. Then when I get home, put + and - by each one so I can focus on the ones with more - than +. Maybe that will help me balance and focus.
