I just signed up for this because I have recently come to grips with the fact that I am depressed and have been for a long time. And I also have come to the understanding that I have no one to talk to about this and have no idea what to do or where to start to get better. I'm just so tired of this overwhelming feeling of pain and agony and I want to fix it but I don't know how.

Hey Mithrilla

Welcome to PC. It's a good first step. And realising that you want to stop it and taking steps to make it happen is the first part of the fight, for sure. Post anytime.

A lot of depressed people find it helpful, indeed necessary, to find a therapist or counsellor, to help them work through all of this, do you have one? It really does help, trust me. There's also meds you can be prescribed, never been on them myself but I gather lots of people here have.

In addition, things like exercising, creative activities like music, painting etc, anything you like can be really good at helping you feel better.

Welcome to PC, I hope you find it as helpful as I have so far (still relatively new myself!)

Welcome to PC. You have made a step by asking for support here. Hopefully you will find what you are looking for. Some people do find that it helps to have a therapist to help sort through things with. Something you may want to consider. I am glad you have found us and look forward to getting to know you.

I'm not sure how to locate a therapist and costs and what not. I am young and am living on my own so I don't have very much money and I have asked my mother if she would help me financially if I were to see a therapist. She didn't take me seriously and thinks it will just go away. It's becoming increasingly frustrating to find support, especially since my boyfriend gets angry with me when I'm depressed because he thinks I'm being irrational. I'm very happy to have found a place where people understand what I am going through and hopefully this will help me through this. Thank you.

Hi there -

And welcome!!! You have a couple of options for therapy - you could call your local department of health and ask if there are programs to help you. You could also call the local suicide hot line and ask if they know of resources - it's not just a suicide hot line but they also talk to sad and depressed people.

Stay here until you can find IRL (in real life) some one that can help you professionally...

There are many people who can help you find solutions...I have heard of retired therapists who will do it for next to nothing...I'm fully insured...so I don't know all the in's and out's of how to find out...

There should be people here that can help.

Welcome!

I agree with you. And to tell you the truth...the thing that makes me feel the best is talking to people who are having rough times too and know what its like. I hope you get lots of support here and that you feel better soon.
