I've had depression since I was a kid, and now I'm engaged to a great person... and my depression is still here. Although I'm on meds, should I expect to live a life with depression? Is it weird for me to think that being in such a positive relationship would change that in any way?

I have dealt with depression since junior high and I can tell you that being with my girlfriend definitely helps some of my symptoms (like oversleeping and eating regulation). That being said she also deals with depression and a bad day she's having often triggers one for me too. So yeah. If you've had it long term I don't think that will really change all that much but having happiness with your relationship can really only be a positive impact in your life

I think that if you have clinical depression your depression isn't going to change completely based on life circumstances.
If you had situational depression, then yes, one might expect their depression to lift when their life got better.

Thanks so much guys. Your comments really helped... my relationship does bring some happiness to my life, although I still deal with clinical depression. Guess I'll just have to live with it.
