Depression definitely affects my thinking, including decision making and self esteem. The more depressed I am the more it disturbs my thinking process.

Absolutely!! It's like a distraction which prevents us from achieving our purpose in life. If you are Christian like me, then you also view it as a sin. Agree?

YES!
Definitely changed. I can't see how it's not a permanent change... On the other hand. I have more empathy for people like myself. I "understand" whereas I did not before. |

Depression has definitely affected my cognitive abilities. I forget things all the time - I'm a cheap movie date as I can forget a movie I just watched just a few days ago. Thinking is slower than it used to be, and more difficult. I hate driving somewhere new because my brain has to make all these new decisions in short order.
I'm hoping that by reading that at least I am exercising my brain, though I quickly forget what I've read. One odditity is that I remember most things involving numbers - a few days ago I read that there are over 44,000 suicide attempts each year in the US! And 1 out of 25 is successful. No, I'm not thinking about suicide, it's just something I read. |

Yes at its core depression is an illness that affects our thinking AND our thinking patterns in many ways. For me it feels like a filter that twists every thought into something negative and creates patterns that build and reinforce those negative connotations.
It can also reduce our capabilities for example secondary effects are tiredness and lack of motivation and an inability to focus or concentrate and it can cause us to withdraw from the people we require to be effective coworkers for example.
