The MDPSYCH that oversees my therapist and Psychopharmacologist wants me to do a CYP450 test. Doesn't seem to be much to it but I've never heard of it and he said that it only tests specific types of antidepressants.
Just wondering if anyone here has had this type of testing and if it helped to find a better or the best antidepressant for your DNA? Thanks, |

It's cytochrome 450, here's the info for ADs Drug interactions due to cytochrome P450.
It works very effectively, I wish we had it in England. |

The generic Effexor that I'm on now produced an almost overnight sense of wellbeing. That lasted about a month and my idiotic Psychopharmacologist wouldn't admit that she was wrong about the maximum dosage even when I showed her the FDA monograph. The Mayo Clinic has some information. It's not as if it's going to hurt or cost me anything. I just want to know if it works. Thanks, |

It worked well for a friend of mine. I would say it's better than the shot-in-the-dark approach.

it basically just tests which drugs would be better absorbed and utilized by your system - so you can avoid any that wouldn't be used by your system atleast efficiently
cool that you can get this done ![]() i would be interested in doing it if i could hope that it works out good for you

I had the testing done. I can't say as I've "used" it very much as I have terrible heath coverage so I have to stick to inexpensive drugs unless the doc could give me samples. We did use it in terms of avoiding the things that said I wouldn't metabolize very well. It also showed that the drugs that had helped me in the past were "good" ones for me so there was that synergy. I think it's still a fairly controversial idea; people are divided about it's worth/not (what else is new?)

A relative of mine recently had this test and they adjust her meds to the test and so far, good stuff. She has been on different meds for probably 40 years, depression, anxiety, etc., . However it's only been 4 months. I'm looking forward to seeing her again soon and if the med combo is still working.
