That's lovely considering I wanted to be a smart guy. EVERYONE tells me I'm smart and I was just believing that I was. Some of these questions are no confusing but pointless, so my mind goes blank of anything good! Is that stupidity or a resilience to IQ tests?

If John likes 400 but not 300 what does he like out of 29, 30, 169, 1600. Who cares?! This is numerological sense and something that I don't have an expertise in! Still, I seem to answer it wrong. I don't even know what I answer wrong. Do they request creativity on these tests? I won't exert myself for this! I did SOME thinking but not a whole lot!

The first official IQ test I took at four I received 140. Since then My scores have plummeted to 124 and now 114. What is it that I am doing wrong here? I can read Plato and Aristotle and Nietzsche and understand a lot of things, yet I do so horribly on IQ tests! That must mean that I'm just a pseudo-intellectual piece of rubbish! WHY ME?!?!?!?

Maybe it just means that your not great at taking the type of tests that you've been given. There's a lot of controversy around IQ tests and what they actually measure, as there is some cultural bias inherent to them. And at the end of the day does it really matter? Unless of course you're bound and determined to get into Mensa...

I've never been asked about IQ in school, undergrad or grad, or in a job interview.

If you're reading and understanding philosophy that puts you ahead of a lot of people, but remember people manifest there intelligence in different ways - some are brilliant at maths, but rubbish at languages and vice versa, some people are incredibly artistically gifted.

I think it's more important to find where your talent's interests lie and explore them, than worrying about what any test says.

okay, there's alot of debate on what IQ tests actually measure but what we know for sure is that it measures ur mental age. and u divide ur mental age by ur real age and multiply it by 100 and there's ur IQ.
its usually normal for it to drop slightly over a long period of time but what ur describing doesnt seem like that. im sure its something else. maybe ur just stressing or not understanding the question or what they want.
i dont know all the details but IQ tests can seem unnessary, like the answer to the question above is 1600 but u wouldnt know it unless u knew stuff about numerology. IQ tests just indirectly try to see what u know.
idk specifically why ur scoring lower on ur IQ tests but just take another one, but this time just relax and clear ur mind and focus on each question. just take it like the first time u took it. just focus on the tests. if u still make a low score then maybe there is something wrong. go to a T and see whats up. im sure its nothing to worry about. good luck with that. wish i coulda been more helpful.
best of luck.
* * *
also.. do some research on IQ tests, i did some a couple yrs back and there's some stuff about how creative ppl and book smart ppl score different. i didnt want to bring it up here but it's interesting and it may answer some question. wish i had a link for u. sorry. well, good luck.

I KNEW it was 1600! But I didn't do it! I listened to my doubts!

I'm feeling better now. Maybe being gifted in writing and philosophy is intelligence. I think an IQ test basically boils down to common sense and knowledge. I'm better than most people at everything except math, which I'm fairly average at. My meds don't help that. I can do geography, history, humanities, philosophy politics, language arts, etc. pretty well as long as I am inclined. I suck at board games though, but I'm resolved to become better at mathematics and chess, my favorite board game. Maybe I am intelligent. Everyone says so. Why would they lie?

exactly. IQ tests really only measure ur IQ from one aspect. personally, i wouldnt be surprised if someone figured this out and started adding another part to make it a real IQ test lol. but dont think just bc u made low on an IQ test means ur any less. 100 is adverage and ur above that. besides, what u do in real life is more important then what u score. I'm getting low scores on IQ tests... u know ur smart and from what u said i know ur smart too. well, have a great day.

Stress and depression are two things that can impede your ability to concentrate and score the best you may have at another time. I think to know one's IQ is best for realizing one needs to compensate at times for other people's lack of similar common sense. It gives a person reason to listen to others when they talk, and to not be so critical for those who don't/can't muster up to what seem like natural expectations.

I'd play chess with you any day. I've been playing since age 8 I think, and played in summer tournaments in jr high.

I've never really devoted myself to chess yet. I want to get into a club to hone my skills and make me better. That, fencing and urban free running along with my knowledge quests. Hopefully then I'll score higher. By the way, I guessed on several questions because I didn't want to exert myself. Hmmm...Does that have something to do with it?

Hey. IQ tests are negatively impacted by anxiety also, which it seems you may have. Where are you taking the tests, who is administering them? I'm not so sure that I would trust online IQ tests.

You don't need a test to validate your intelligence. You give several examples of being intelligent, and I'm sure there are more! I'm getting low scores on IQ tests... Take care
