I was diagnosed with depression about 2 years ago and have since been in on and off treatment for it. Most recently I started sertraline at 25 mg and bumped up to 50 mg for the past month. It seems to be helping, but I am still having really bad lows and I get irrationally angry at the smallest things, like being cut off or anything that is just blatantly inconsiderate of other people. Maybe I'm just searching for something else to be wrong because I can't fix my current problem, depression, but I feel like maybe I have another disorder. A professional diagnosed me, I can't be smarter than them right? Do I have better intuition maybe? No idea anyways I've been considering a couple of other disorders, the main candidate being bipolar disorder, mostly because of the lows and highs that I experience. I am not manic though I'm never up for countless days because I can't sleep, so I'm probably wrong but shouldn't the sertraline be helping more? Am I just on a super low dose maybe? Have any of you ever questioned your diagnosis? And how did you figure it out for sure?

50mg is a pretty low dose for sertraline...when I was started on it they put me straight on 100mg because they didn't see the point of me being on 50mg first. I don't think it helped me until I got to 150mg.
I agree with my depression diagnosis...but have been fighting another diagnosis I got 4 years ago. If it doesn't sit right with you then you should ask why that professional diagnosed you and also let them know the reasons you disagree. Perhaps a discussion will clear things up...whether it leads to you agreeing with depression or the doctor rethinking the diagnosis. |

I was recently diagnosed with MDD and still trying to figure out the best cocktail that will help keep me stable. I too seem to be quite irrational and agitated at the drop of a hat these days.
