I'm confused lately. I've bee diagnosed with gad for quite a few years now. I know my anxiety. But this all, what I'm feeling.. It's new.
I'm theoretically happy. I have a good paying job, a beautiful and loving girlfriend. I'm out (as a lesbian) to my family and friends and they are accepting and loving. I just became an aunt. On paper it's all great. And yet I have cried every day this week for no reason. I feel miserable. I'm so lost and confused. How can I be unhappy when everything is good?

Hello Liinu: I'm sorry you are feeling lost & confused. I feel similarly a lot of the time, I'm afraid. Plus I also struggle with quite a bit of anxiety. So I know how that is. Depression, as the professionals always tell us, is a physiological condition. It's an imbalance of chemicals in the brain. So the fact that one's life is good doesn't necessarily mean that one cannot develop depression. Of course, it is also possible there could be something medical going on. (I presume you've had yourself checked out medically.)
One thing I personally believe is that anxiety, over the long term, can be corrosive. It eats away at one's psyche, so to speak. So, from my perspective, it is perhaps also possible that if you've been struggling with anxiety for an extended period of time, it may have simply worn you down to the point where you are developing depression even though, as you wrote, everything in your life is good. Of course, I don't really know. But these are my thoughts with regard to your post. I wish you well... ![]() |

Depressions Hallmark symptom is sadness. There doesn't have to have huge stressor in life to make you feel miserable.
Do you have other symptoms? Is it hard to get out of bed? Sleeping too little or too much? Change in appetite? Suicidal thoughts? Loss of interest in things you liked to do? Those are the other symptoms. If you can relate to those and they happen most of the time in the last couple months or more it could be depression. It could be a physical symptoms. Things like thyroid issues can cause depressed feelings. Have you tried to go to the doctor to rule out any physical causes? 6 Conditions That Feel Like Depression But Aren't

Sadness is not depression. It feels different to me.
When I was bad into the depression, I still had days when I was sad, and days when I was not sad. Even the days when I was not sad, I still suffered the same. I had nothing to blame my depression on. My life was, and is, amazing. No changes in my life caused this to happen--it just happened. It makes no sense (especially as I try to explain it)....but I agree with what's been said. Pay attention to yourself (and ask those close to you pay attention also). Depression makes you unable to help yourself most of the time... Keep posting. |

I have looked into it and I'm pretty sure it's BPD. My therapist thought I had it back when I was 17, but I was too young and didn't match five points of the criteria. I now do.
