For my own reasons, one of the saddest songs I have ever heard.

Anyone else have a song that is particularly significant?

Two of the saddest songs I know of right now are not originally in English. Or sung by people. I don't care.

This version in particular is absolutely heartbreaking to me. As far as I'm concerned, this is what depression is.

Not in English, but I cried so hard the first time I heard it and saw the lyrics...

Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd. It tears me up, I can't listen to it. Also Yesterday by the Beatles because I heard my mom singing it when I was little and she didn't know anyone was listening. She sounded sad and it hurts to remember it. I believe she suffered from depression too but no one talked about it then.

This may sound ironic but the song "Lost Without Your Love" by Bread. The reason I say that it's ironic is because I was hearing that song a lot at a time when I got back together with an old g/f that I had loved a lot two years earlier. It was a great time when we got back together. But it didn't last long.

Also "Somebody To Love" by Queen. I heard that song a lot and was really feeling it just before I got back together with my ex g/f. At that time I had not heard from her. I remembered hearing that song for the first time and fell in love with it. It was in Dec. of 1976 when it was at the time for the Fall Semester finals in college. I guess I had heard from her just before Christmas of that year.

Somebody To Love & Lost Without Your Love were on the top 40 together at that time.

I just heard The Winner Takes it All (ABBA) and even though I have heard it a million times I just realised it rivals Parsley Sage Rosemary and Thyme. I started tearing up within the first few chords.

The Lumineers Cleopatra

I was Cleopatra...

I was late for this, late for that, late for the love of my life
but when I die alone when I die alone when I die I'll be on time.

Until I Fall Away by the Gin Blossoms. It is my go-to song when I'm depressed.

I enjoy sad songs as long as I like the music. There is something soothing about them. Even sad songs that are really angry give me a sense of peace. Is that "normal"?

There isn't one specific song but I will keep it short.

A Forest, Plainsong, Disintegration, The Same Deep Water as You, Out of this World, lots more - The Cure

Somewhat Damaged, The day the world went away, Right Where it Belongs, The Great Below, Hurt, Something I can never have, well most every song Trent has written falls in the sad song category - Nine Inch Nails

Losing my Religion, Perfect Circle - REM

Blasphemous Rumors - Depeche Mode

How Will I Laugh Tomorrow, Love vs Loneliness, Nobody Hears, Alone - Suicidal Tendencies

Everything from Joy Division

Wake me up when September Ends by Green Day and In Fields of Gold by Sting both have painful memories for me. I can't listen to Kelly Clarkson's Piece by Piece at all, I just lose it and cry.

For the Love of a Daughter by Demi Lovato. It's about her father abusing her. I like it because I too was abused, but not by my father.

Oh Yes - When September Ends by Green Day - this is an anthem for me. I HATE September It is my birth month and has never once come and gone without taking a piece of me with it. I am not looking forward to this September coming as all the hurt and pain and grief that month has caused just gets added to and worse every single year. :-(
