Hey I'm josh and I'm in my third semester at a local community college. For the past year I've been getting more and more depressed. Everyone's been leaving my life and I don't know why. The people I used to call friends moved away and now blow me off and won't even talk to me. All I do is stay home alone all day. I'm so alone, I literally have zero friends. I know people say that sometimes but I actually mean it. Sometimes I just want someone to talk to but there's no one. The past three months it's gotten really bad, School is getting very stressful because of it. I'm not eating, I can't sleep, and I actually think about killing myself everyday. I have everything planned out. I don't want to do it but if things keep going like they are it'll happen. I try to make new friends but I'm kinda shy and it never works out. Sometimes I go days without talking to a single person. I don't know what to do anymore.

Reach out to a doctor, therapist, crisis hotline or suicide hotline. It is important that you get help. I hope you find you can make friends on PC and it will help a little. PC is very supportive and friendly.

You are welcome to PM me if you need to.

Hello Josh: Welcome to PsychCentral… from the Skeezyks! I hope you find the time you spend here to be of benefit. As gayleggg wrote... please reach out, in real life, for the help you need. I've been where you are a couple of times. It's not pretty. But it can get better. We here on PC want to be, & can be, supportive. But we're no substitute for real life help.

PsychCentral is a great place to get information as well as support for mental health issues. There are many knowledgeable & caring members here. The more you post, & reply to other members’ posts, the more a part of the community you will become. Plus there are social groups you can join & chat rooms where you’ll be able to connect with other PC members in real time (once your first 5 posts have been reviewed & approved.) Lots of great stuff! So please keep posting!

I have found this forum to be very beneficial, Josh. College is a crazy, terrible time in life and also a time when depression often raises it's ugly head. I am sorry you are suffering through this depression. But there is help and there is hope. I agree that you should seek help and do it soon. I was told once by one of my practitioner's "there are a million ways to help you". And there are. I must beg you not to follow your plan. I am 6 years out from a dear loved one going through with his. I beg with all I am, don't. Sometimes meds take a little while to work, so get started my friend. Please.

Jacob I second the ideas given to you about reaching out for a doctor and/or therapist. Maybe your campus has some counseling available.

In addition to that I would highly recommend a depression support group. This will give you some structure with a group of people. You may even find friends there but even if not at least you will be interacting with people regularly... People who are supportive and understanding of the feelings you are having.

I go to DBSA meetings regularly---Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance---and I find them of great value. You can check the website at dbsalliance.org to find a group near you. You might also see if your campus has a support group. DBSA is an alternative if you prefer to go off campus for this. There is no cost, no obligation, and everything is confidential at DBSA.
