I have been depressed for a number of YEARS now. Fortunately, it has been better lately with one exception.

The last time I stumbled into my "darkness", I wrote down what I was feeling and when my therapist read my notes she had an "ah ha" moment where she now thinks that I may have ADHD too. Basically my inability to focus and function normally can set me off into my dark-world.

Just wondering if anyone else has similar issues.?.?

Yep, I've had ADHD my whole life. The inability to focus can be a blessing sometimes, but others, it just makes me feel incompetent. This issue has caused me to be socially reclusive, due to me having a hard time not upsetting people. It's also caused me not to be able to keep positive thoughts in order long enough to triumph over the bad ones (which are erratic but persistent). What I do now -- and it can take a while -- is I write down counters to these insults inside my head and recite them later when the negative thoughts are too overwhelming. It has helped me in the past, though not every time. Just takes practice and persistence, I guess.

I've had ADHD since I was 11, so I can definitely relate to being negative about oneself as a result of being unable to focus. While this might not work for everyone, a minute or so of deep breathing typically helps me focus whenever I feel like I can't concentrate. Hope this helps!

Yes, I do. I've had ADHA since childhood, & after a bad car accident, years ago, I began to experience depression, as well. ADHD may worsten depression, if you easily get stuck on something, or tend to obsess. I sometimes inadvertently go through the entire litany of issues I'm upset about, or dealing with, in my mind when it's racing, which makes the depression worse. It can be a vicious cycle, so I try to distract myself with some mindless entertainment, TV, music, or better yet, when I feel well enough to push myself, walking my dogs in a nice, quiet, place, & focusing on them, helps to change my sometimes "overtaxed" mind!

That's good that you're discovering the answers to the problems.
