How do I do things when I'm depressed. I want to write stories but my motivation is zapped to zero. How do you do things when depression takes away your motivation?

I hate to quote Nike here but I honestly "just do it". It starts by doing something that I have to do, no matter what it's gotta get done. While I'm up, I figure, "Well, I'm already up, I guess." Then I do something that doesn't need to happen but could use some doing. If I do this after every time I get what I need done, eventually I get some motivation.
To get the creative juices flowing? Well, to do that I make myself go out and get the morning paper for my grand dad in-law. When I'm out there, the sunrise inspired me to take a photo of something, which I do. After taking that photo, I can sometimes get motivated enough to work on poetry or this book I'm writing. Takes some doing but it's worked for me.

I like Só leigheas ideas about doing something that motivates you first. You are the one who knows what motivates you. Do that!
On the other hand it is important to understand that depression is a real illness where among others thinking may be slowed down. Slowed down thinking may have influence on your capacity to write. My experience with depression is that it is best to try to make a routine for out of bed time, meals, physical exercises and more. May be you can have a special time a day when you can try to write. If you are so depressed that you cannot get out of bed, you can start with sitting in your bed the first day, putting one foot on the floor the next and so on. Since you are asking about motivation to write, I am sure you have passed the "out of bed stage", but the principle is the same for every thing you want to do: take it slow, one step at the time. Links to motivation. Hope you find something that inspires you (there are 75 items): https://www.2knowmyself.com/directory/28 Please remember: The worst you can do is to start blaming yourself for not being good enough. If you try different ways to be able to write and have no successes, please find something else to fill your time with until you become better. Good luck! ![]() |

I wish I had some additional helpful suggestions, right now I don't
![]() ![]() I 100 percent agree, the worst you can do is blame yourself for "not being good enough" (that and similar thoughts are a lie) Peace and love ![]()

Honestly, it is hard, sometimes I just have to do bit by bit, whether its schoolwork or writing. Sometimes it just doesn't get done. It really depends. Depression is a mystery that way.
