Hey everyone, hope things are going well. I'm kendra and haven't been on pc in a while, but wanted to post this. I just visited my doc today and recently found out about my new diagnosis. Dysthymic Disorder. apparently it is a type of depression. Honestly didn't talk to him about it really, so I'm just trying to figure out how to cope with my new diagnosis. I also have generalized anxiety too. Any tips would be greatly appreciated

Welcome back! Did your doc prescribe you meds or therapy?
Thanks for this!

I think you should start by consulting the doctor about the diagnosis, since he was the one who saw it, and I don't know how much you agree with it.
Thanks for this!

I don't really have any tips... I wish you well re this diagnosis and learning about it (a doctor may be willing to offer some suggestions also)

Thanks all, I will talk to him in few weeks when I go back. I don't really know how I feel about it. I looked it up and some of the symptoms fit me and some don't. So I guess I will continue to try and cope with it the best I can.
And to answer the medicine question, I'm still on effexor for anxiety and depression. So no change in the meds.

It's not uncommon to have a mental diagnosis partially unfit. Further consultation and discussion with your doctor will help you further understand.
But the most important thing is how you feel, regardless of whichever diagnosis you have. These are literally medical labels, not a "you" label. Remember that.
Thanks for this!
