I'm very worried about my best friend right now. She struggles with depression(I think its manic depression) and general anxiety. I also struggle with depression and anxiety myself so i am very familiar with the symptoms and behavior. Her and I have been best friends for over 20 years(we're both 26), so i know her well enough to know when something is off. We snapchat each other everyday and text throughout the week. As of yesterday(its actually been a little more than 24 hours) she hasnt responded to any of my texts nor has she read them. The app we use to text even tells you when they were last on their phone/using the app and she hasnt even been on her phone since yesterday(which is not normal as she uses it every morning before work). The past month or more shes really been struggling and recently had a rough patch with her boyfriend. She hasnt exhibited any signs of attempting suicide to my knowledge or that I've seen. However shes been more reserved with me than usual. The past 2 weeks or so she hasnt been talking to me as much as normal and avoids answering my questions, so I politely called her out on it and she said she feels like a bother since she complains about her problems but doesnt do anything about it. To which I responded that shes NEVER a bother and I'm asking because I care and want to help and be there for her in any way that i can. She was seeing a therapist as well as a psychiatrist, though not as often as she should have been due to health insurance reasons. She is also on medication(Prozac) but i dont know the frequency in which she takes them. This behavior is not normal for her as i said above we snapchat everyday or talk and take pride in how long we've had our snapchat streak(its dumb, i know)
Long story short, I guess I'm just looking for some advice on what to do? I've reached out to her mom, with no response yet( i dont have her phone number on my new phone so i wrote her on facebook messenger) She doesnt regularly use facebook so i dont even know if she'll see it before I wake up before I work tonight as i work 3rd shift. Would calling her place of work be a good idea? If anyone has some advice on anything more I can do please let me know. I am worried sick, and dont think I'll be getting much sleep before I go to work tonight until I get a response from someone. |

Here in Ontario, and I'd imagine its the same in the US you can call the police and ask them to do a wellness check on a person. Don't call 911, but call your local police department's non emergency number and ask if they can check on your friend. Explain why you're concerned as you've done here, and an officer will go to your friends home, to check on her.
I've been on the receiving end of one of these calls when I was in my drinking days, and didn't show up for a dinner with a friend. It was a little embarrassing but ok. splitimage |

I got a reply from her mom and she's in the hospital right now. She took too much of her medication and more on Monday night. My friends work called her mom saying she never showed up for work. Thank you so much for the advice. Please send positive vibes in her recovery.
