My depression and bpd has made me so ugly. I used to be very pretty. This just makes me even more depressed

This is how I felt recently. Cos of all these traumatic events I have neglected myself. Dont say you used to be pretty. Unless youre talking years and years you can't go from pretty to ugly in that time. I hope I can help. I may feel the same. I have recently had a traumatic event...and neglected my body in the last few months. My friends and FAM aptly pointed out you can't go from pretty to ugly in that space of time. I hope this helps x

What makes you think you're ugly? Perhaps that's just the way you see yourself.

Hi cryingontheinside

And I was thinking precisely what Mickey was thinking when I read your post.......I mean maybe, I don't know but maybe, your appearance is different..........self care can become so hard to even think about..........depression can sometimes reflect itself in your eyes/on your face..........maybe there are other things depression has imprinted on you..........but that doesn't need to mean that prettiness can't still be there..........afterall you are looking at yourself through the eyes of depression, right?!!
And I'm sure you know anyway, that the world can look so different through the eyes of depression........lots of things that may have at one time looked beautiful/attractive lose that "glow" under the veil of depression, the colours fade...........
And, of course, it can have you seeing yourself so very, very negatively..........predominently what you see may be all your flaws (although sometimes they too can be beautiful ), and all your new flaws.........so what you're seeing does not have to be the truth.......or even all there is...........however you're thinking you look right now............prettiness can still be there..........despite everything

Alison

Same. I feel like I have aged a lot because of things that happened in my life. I don't look 20.

I feel the same, one of the meds I'm now on has affected my hair, making it break off and go crappy. It's a little thing I know but when you're already down anything else on top can push you.

I feel like my illness has taken a toll on my looks as well. I'm working on that as we speak. You're not alone. Depression can make you see things in a negative light. The prettiness is still there.

Thanks for this!
